Yes We Have Ebooks…

…or at least we’re working on a digital version of The Psychology of Astro*Carto*Graphy. It’s taking a little longer than expected due to the explosive, yet chaotic, competition between about half a dozen different ways to read a book in this form. This book represents a special challenge because the first seven chapters contain examples of those nice maps – the real point of the book, actually. They don’t fit comfortably on a standard Kindle, Nook, or Kobo, so we have to make some decisions and do some redesigning.

The same is true to some extent for tablet readers. It was easy enough when there was just the iPad, with Steve Jobs swearing never to produce a tablet with a screen under 10 inches. But Steve is gone, the iPad mini is here, and a flock of competitors with circa 8″ screens arrived ahead of it. And though ebooks are mostly free-flowing, with no pages, there are now ebooks with fixed pages sizes.
But while these things add to the complication of making sure a digital book with sensitive graphics, it’s not an insurmountable problem. So, patience, e-fans…
